Trees of Morni: Kassod

Kassod  कसोद/ Siamese cassia  (Senna siamea) a 50 foot high, evergreen tree with a short trunk and a large low branching crown. Leaves are alternate, pinnately compound. Flowers are bright yellow and grow in dense pannicles. The tree prefers moist, well drained soils upto an altitude of 1250 metres.  Timber quality is dense/heavy and burns well. Foliage can be used to feed goats and cattle. The tree is planted along the major district road to Morni, beyond Berwala and short of Mandhna, and adds colour to the picturesque drive to Morni.
